Today we are chatting to Cindy, a lady I’ve known for quite some time now. Let’s see what she has to say…
How long have you been wearing your hair in its natural state?
I did the big chop in 2011 and have been natural ever since.
When did you decide to do this?
In September 2011 I was on my way to an event and decided that to wash and blow my hair. Only then I discovered that my hair broke off terribly, so much that I couldn’t get a blow dry brush in…needless to day, I never went to the event and the very next day I went to have it chopped off.
Did you do the big chop of transition?
Big chop. There was practically no hair at the crown of my hear nor hairline.
How did your friends/family/partner react to your decision?
Everyone thought I looked amazing with my new hairstyle but also questioned why I cut shoulder length hair as course hair usually doesn’t grow that long. My boyfriend loved every bit of it…he couldn’t stop staring, hehehe. My aunt and cousin followed my lead thereafter.
What is your current hair regime?
I wash with Dark and Lovely Cholesterol treatment about twice a week and apply Dr Miracle’s Curl Care Soft hold Crème each morning. I also use the treatment to do my deep conditioning over weekends.
Any favourite products that you use? (where can we find it?)
Definitely Dr Miracle’s Curl Care range, available at Pick ‘n Pay and Clicks.
What is your biggest challenge?
Wanting a “formal” look. going to dinners or cocktail events I always feel like my hair needs to be blown out but it always looks dry when I do and don’t use the flat iron which is too much heat. I usually can’t wait to wet my hair after the function.
What do you love most about your hair?
I love the fact that I can let my hair do whatever it wants. It’s quite stressful trying to keep fixing your hair to the way you styled it when you left home. With natural hair you let it do and fall the way it wants to, It literally makes me feel free.
Do you have a natural hair icon? Local or international?
Local – Juwayra Januarie…I save all her hair pics. You inspired me to go natural and also Pearl Thusi.
