Today’s feature is my sister in-law, Elisheva. I practically forced her to go the natural route and by the way she’s trying to convert everyone else to do the same, she could very well be the chairperson of the natural hair movement…
How long have you been wearing your hair in its natural state?
I’ve been natural for about 1 year and 8 months now.
When did you decide to do this?
I’ve decided to go natural because relaxing my hair no longer made any sense to me. My hair would be straight and sleek for about two weeks and thereafter my roots would be “thick” again.
Did you do the big chop of transition?
Transition. For a year I’ve braided my hair (boxed braids) and did bantu knots.
How did your friends/family/partner react to your decision?
Some of my friends was a bit skeptical about it. My family supported me…we’re all TEAM NATURAL 🙂
What is your current hair regime?
I shampoo my hair with bicarb (mixed with water), making sure to massage my sculpt and rinse with lukewarm water. I do a quick rince with ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) and apply a small amount of Tresemme Naturals Conditioner. I’ll stretch my hair by combing it in sections while applying coconut oil and then covering it with a plastic cap for 1 hour at least. I then rinse and style my hair.
Any favourite products that you use? (where can we find it?)
- Coconut & Olive oils
- Tresemmé Naturals Conditioner
- Loreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Nourishing Conditioner
All of the above can be found at Clicks.
What is your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge would be the fact that I literally have to make time for my hair. The fact that I have 4c type hair means that I need at least 3-4 hours to do my hair from start to finish. A simple wash and go will not work for me.
What do you love most about your hair?
I love the flexibility of my hair. I can braid it, curl it, blow dry it, twist it…the list goes on. And just so you know…I’ve tries many natural hairstyles and I’ve slayed each one of them.
Do you have a natural hair icon? Local or international?
Where can we find you online?
