Status Update…the movie PLUS a giveaway

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am currently raising a teenage daughter who have started high school this year. Thank goodness we have made it through without much hiccups!

When I heard about the movie Status Update, I knew immediately that I wanted to watch it with my daughter. You know that when you’ve only started high school you spend most of your time trying to fit in because you had to leave all your friends behind when you left primary school. So in the first few days of highs school you silently wish for a miracle to happen to help take the awkwardness out of having to fit in and make new friends. Even though I don’t allow my daughter to make use of social media, it does play a huge role in the lives of many teenagers these day.

Teaching my daughter to be comfortable and confident in who she is and wants to be, is one of the most important lessons I want to teach her as a teen. Often times the person portrayed on social media is totally different to the person in real life which can also lead to many tears and unnecessary emotions. After watching the trailer, I think this movie will be a good fit for teenagers as a treat after the stressful exam period.

The movie Status Update is about a boy, Kyle who had to start at a new school and finds it hard to fit in and with all the humiliating incidents that happened on the first day at his new school, he’s cellphone gets smashed which led him to have to buy a new one from a strange, seemingly insightful salesman who introduces him to YOUniverse, an app who can get you anything with typing just one sentence.

“The goal was to create a story that was relevant today but had the fun and heartfelt feeling of a John Hughes comedy, a magical, modern day fairy tale not unlike Big or 17 Again, and then bring that story to the big screen. I think the team behind STATUS UPDATE accomplished that and more,” says Filardi.
