Product review: Miss Jessie’s Coily Custard

When I saw the request for bloggers to do a review on some products on Kinki Moriri’s Instagram page, I immediately signed up. I am familiar with one of the products sold on their website and was keen to try some more because of the results I previously had.

Miss Jessie’s is one of the first brands I came across on the interwebs when I started researching this whole natural hair thing back in 2010.  They are also very popular amongst the natural haired community in other countries where it is widely available. Finding out that these brands are now available to us is great news for people who are always on the look for new products to try.

The promise:

Miss Jessie’s Coily Custard is a non-greasy styling product that promises to transform your “frizz” into defined curls. This styling product states that it moisturizes your strands while adding shine and enhances your curl pattern.

My view

While wearing my hair in a wash & go style most of the time, I’m always on the lookout for styling products that is moisturizing (very important) and keep my curls defined. The product needs to provide some kind of hold so that I can wear my hairstyle for more than one day, at least. This custard does just that! If you are looking for a product that will add shine and makes your curls feel super soft and juicy, this is it. JACKPOT!!

It comes in a 250ml tube and is easily dispensed when used. The product is clear and has a gel like texture that can be applied to wet, freshly washed, damp or dry hair.

Wash and go!

I used The Coily Custard as the styling product in my wash and go and I am thrilled with the results. After washing and conditioning my hair, I sealed it with an oil to keep the moisture in. I applied the custard in sections, working it through with my fingers until all the hair is covered.* Just note that you don’t need to apply a lot of the product. Don’t forget to scrunch your hair after each application to encourage curl formation. When you’ve applied the product to all your hair you can either airdry or use a diffuser to dry your hair.

*A tip: If your hair is a bit dry, you can use a spray bottle with water to dampen it a bit.

Where can you get the product?

This product and other popular overseas brands (and some local brands) are available on Kinky Moriri which is a South African based online distributor.  Do visit their site to see what else they have available.

Till later!
